The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was formed in February 2005 by the then Malawian President His Excellency Professor Bingu wa Mutharika after a dispute over policy difference with the United Democratic Front, a party under which he was elected state president.
The party has since grown to be one of the strongest in Malawi. The DPP was established to restore the confidence of the people of Malawi in their government. The people wanted a government they could trust, a government that could deliver.
